Principle Ethics v.
Value Ethics and the process of Ethical Decision Making
Class discussion will focus on the above issue.
Experiential class using case-studies and various
theories of ethical decision making. In this class, your group will be given a
case study to examine. In your group you will use the ethical decision process
outlined by Schultz et al., Cottone and Tarvydas, or another you studied and
discuss the steps and process you would use to resolve specific ethical
dilemmas.

Read these articles in preparation for class: First
read Meara,
Schmidt & Day (See Required Readings
in Course Outline). Next, read the two responses one by Bersoff,
and one by Kitchener.
Come to class prepared to answer and discuss the thesis proposed by Meara et
al. After reading their paper and the responses to their paper, do you believe
that constructs from principle ethics
derived from common morality, virtue ethics based on community wisdom,
practice, or tradition, and the integration of these approaches can enhance
ethical decision-making and policy setting? Provide arguments from your
readings and your own personal life that support your position.
