Richard Karsten (PhD Alberta, 1998) is currently an Assistant Professor in the department of Mathematics and Statistics at Acadia University. He joined Acadia after three years as a NSERC post-doctoral fellow in MIT's department of oceanography. Richard's research interest lie in oceanographic modelling, particularly in examining how baroclinic instability affects the general circulation. Recently he has focussed on the combination of observations and theory to model the dynamics of the Southern Ocean and the role they play in climate change.
